Is your BMW not fast enough for you? If you are searching for some after-market extras or some BMW performance parts, you should first stop and consider what exactly it is you want. Do you want some glitzy exterior or interior add-ons and do not need the car to perform better? Or are you in the market for some serious changes in your car's performance? All of your needs can be accommodated by after-market tuning shops and dealers alike–just make sure any modifications you have added on are done by an authorized dealer and none of them void your warranty (unless you are okay with that).
If you are looking to modify your BMW's performance, now it's time to think about specifics. Do you want better handling and a lower ride? Do you want better acceleration off of the line or do you want top-end acceleration? All modifications will affect your car's performance in different ways. Examples include adding a turbo, which will increase top-end torque but may limit low-end power. Adding a BMW performance muffler will probably do something similar, though not as dramatic.
BMW performance tuning should be done by a professional, even if it may seem easy to simply buy a new exhaust system and install it yourself. If your car is older, you don't care about its warranty or you have already put parts on it and feel comfortable doing simple modifications, go for it. Just use your discretion.
BMW Z3 performance can be enhanced with a variety of after-market parts. If you are looking for better overall performance a cold-air intake system could be up your alley. Sometimes these modify the natural sound of the BMW engine, which is something you probably don't want to do. If you are modifying a Toyota or Honda, this is fine, but when you have a high-quality car like a BMW (especially if it is new) you do not want to alter the natural growl of your stock engine. This is also true if you are looking for an after-market muffler on a BMW. Do not get one that is loud. You can get a muffler that adds to performance without that hideous noise if you are serious about getting a muffler. You shouldn't need a new muffler on a new BMW. If you don't like the looks of the stock one, get a new muffler tip.
The same goes for BMW M3 performance. Do not do anything to change the noise a brand new BMW makes–it is unnecessary. Unless, of course, you want to be "that guy," who drives the obnoxious car that would get people to stare in awe if it wasn't for the mess of noise coming from the car's inexpensive muffler and draws gaping glares of detest instead…you don't need that to be you. For those serious about BMW performance, lighter parts are the best way to go. You can upgrade your chassis, flywheel, get better fuel injectors, buy a performance chip (though you shouldn't need one), or buy better tires.
The tires are one of the most important facets of the car considering the fact that they are the only part of the car actually touching the ground. If you want better BMW performance, take your car to an authorized dealer and see what they recommend for your specifications. Any modification you make to a BMW must keep the car street legal. Make sure it passes emissions tests and other local regulations that may pertain to your vehicle. Otherwise max out your BMW performance to your heart's desire. Just remember–always wear your seat belt and obey the speed limit!
