BMW M5

Following the 3rd generation of BMW M5's–the most successful generation to date–the 4th generation has to be something special to show it is worthy of the same class.
How will BMW do this?
The 3rd generation pushed the envelope by putting a V8 under its hood.
What's in store for the 4th generation?
How about a V10 with an output of 500 horsepower at 7750 rpm with 383 foot-pounds of torque at 6100 rpm. This engine gives the BMW M5 performance (and a power-to-weight ratio) that is second to none in its class. The seven-speed SMG transmission that comes with the M5 will not be the only transmission available. The 2007 North American model will include adding the no-cost option of a six-speed manual for driving enthusiasts who want complete control of the 500 horses under the hood.
The BMW M5 parts ways with its predecessors in power and quickness. Its engine has been specifically designed and programmed to rev high–it redlines at 8250. It has 25 percent more horsepower than its 3rd generation counterparts and the new SMG transmission changes gears 20 percent faster than the older generation's SMG. The double-VANOS variable valve timing on the new V10 under the hood of the BMW M5 maximizes torque no matter what the RPMs. The new MS S65 engine management system uses the most powerful processors approved for use in cars.
The new BMW M5 features an optional Heads-up Display on the windshield that displays speed, navigation directions, check control messages and cruise control settings. Like so many other settings of the car, this can also be modified. When switching into MDrive, a pre-programmed sport setting, the HUD displays engine RPMs along and flashes when it is time to switch gears. The SMG transmission can be modified to 11 different gear-changing patterns–five in automatic mode and six in manual.
Parts on the BMW M5 include new differentials, a high performance braking system with ventilated discs and twin piston calipers. The BMW M5's stopping distance is under 120 feet from 60 mph and under 460 feet from 124 mph. The new exterior looks, and is, much more aerodynamic than previous generations. It has four rear exhaust pipes, deeper wheel wells, and a modified front spoiler and rear apron. The leather interior and amenities inside the car top off this luxury car's features.
Though it may drive like a supercar, it is at heart, a luxury ride. The new BMW M5 just really, really likes to drive fast and handle well. I can't complain.
